Family Garden, North London
The clients Beverly and Ray were keen to transform their garden and create:
- A new seating/dining area
- New lawn
- Raised beds and built in containers
“We are not really gardeners but we want something that looks good all year and we can use for entertaining and that is child friendly” – Ray
“I want an area to grow herbs as I am a freelance therapist and I would use them as part of my work, I also would like plants to attract wildlife if possible” – Beverly
The garden is long and has at its end a raised area that houses storage shed and compost containers.
The clients did not include this in their brief and intend to develop this area at a later date.
The Silver Birch was to be retained.
MAKING THE GARDEN:
The project took approximately 2 weeks to complete, this included completely removing the old lawn and large shrubs which had outgrown their areas.
The decking was built on existing hard surface and was extended thereby giving the clients a much more usable space.
Raised beds create a journey through the garden one of which is planted with herbs.
As an addition the clients commissioned a planting plan that could be introduced over two years.
“We are more than pleased with the result, the flexibility of the design means we can now consider a new area for growing vegtables….it’s even made the kids take an interest in gardening” – Ray
